National organizations and community development

Major organizations

Over the past forty years, Francophone and Acadian communities have put into place representation organizations and sectoral organizations at the local, regional, provincial and territorial levels. Nationally, the trend has continued, and over twenty national organizations have been established to ensure the development of Frenchlanguage infrastructures, services and activities in every aspect of daily life.

The Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne (FCFA) du Canada is the lead organization in the consultation network of the Francophone minority communities. FCFA provides political representation, promotion and support for the development of these communities, in collaboration with its members and partners. In 2009, FCFA's membership includes 12 provincial and territorial associations representing Francophone interests and 10 national organizations representing different activity sectors.

In 2007, FCFA organized the Sommet des communautés francophones et acadiennes, a major consultation event during which close to 700 participants from every part of the country worked together to redefine the communities' vision of tomorrow: "In 2017, people living in Canada's Francophone and Acadian communities thrive in their French-speaking environments. They have the ability to act collectively on every aspect of their development, thereby contributing to Canada's growth."

The vision developed at the Sommet des communautés francophones et acadiennes revolves around five forums:

Our population: Consolidate Canada's Francophone population through recruitment, support and integration strategies for French-speaking immigrants, and by strengthening the Francophone identity and families.

Our environment: Ensure that Francophones have access to a range of French-language programs and services in every aspect of daily life, and increase the visibility of Canada's Francophone and Acadian communities in Canada and around the world.

Our governance: Increase the ability of community organizations and institutions to work together to meet the needs and aspirations of Francophones, and to take chage of every aspect of our development.

Our influence: Guarantee the full expression of Francophones' linguistic rights, and strenghten our links with different elements of Canadian society and the international community.

Our development: Accelerate the economic, social and community development of Canada's Francophone community by focusing on entrepreneurship, cultural industries and human capital, among other things.

The Forum des leaders consists of 40 Francophone organizations and institutions that are working together to turn this vision into a reality. Below is a list of those organizations and institutions:
